The clubs junior athletics programmes provide Fun to Fulfilment for children from the age of 4 through to 14.
Summer Track and Field club nights are held every Tuesday from 5.30pm to 7.00pm and are developed for children to participate and have fun. These evenings also provide children with the skills of running, jumping and throwing which develop balance and special awareness.
Points are awarded over the course of the season in each age group for each event and at the end of the season Trophies are presented at the club break-up for various achievements. Those who participate regularly have a greater chance of scoring points.
‘Colgate’ Junior 5 Star Awards. This is an incentive scheme based on personal improvement, with certificates awarded on achieving specified performance levels.
Every junior club member will have the opportunity to win an achievement certificate. Performances are recorded at club night and certificates will be awarded at five levels-
1 star, 2 star, 3 star, 4 star and 5 star- according to standards achieved in a specified number of events for each age group.
The overall aim of the scheme is to encourage children to take part in a wide range of events and to spread recognition for achievement over all club members- not just the winners or the better athletes. The scheme does not aim to produce champions, but rather to provide incentives and develop skills and enjoyment in all events.
Coaching nights are held on Thursdays throughout the summer from 5.45-7.00pm.These nights are set down for the coaching of specific skills in all events for children 10-14 years and for parents to learn the basics of the events.
Saturday interclub competition is held on Saturday mornings from 9.00am-12.30pm commencing October 15th at Burnside High School. The competition will be held at different venues this summer due to the earthquake damage at QE II park making this venue unavailable.
