Community Coaching

In 2018 we launched our Accredited Coach Membership, and while this has been successful, we have also come to realise that a base form of coach membership would be of significant benefit to our sport. In alignment with this need Athletics NZ is adding a Community Coach Membership, to sit alongside the Accredited Coach Membership, which will enhance our ability to communicate with, upskill and influence our coaching population – as well as ensuring that our coaching population are able to provide a safe social and physical environment for young athletes.

This “Athletics NZ Community Coach Membership” is open to anyone who coaches within our sport. Including Foundation Programme coaches, club coaches and parent coaches. The minimum requirements for membership will be;

  1. Police vetting (required every three years)
  2. Signing and abiding by the Athletics NZ Code of Conduct
  3. Completing the Sport NZ Coaching Safety Net Module

The goal of introducing the Community Coach Membership model is to engage a much larger proportion of our coaches as direct members of Athletics NZ, by making the process as simple and easy as possible. This new membership category matches current child safety good practice and gives Athletics NZ the ability to hold any member coach accountable to the Code of Conduct. Community Coach Membership will have a simple renewal process each year and after three years coaches will need to update their police vetting.
