Report Summary:

Caversham White won the 2010 Peninsula Relay, with Hill City Men 1 second and Hill City Men 2 third.  Fastest team honours went to Caversham Black (2 hours 6 minutes 29 seconds). 

 
PENINSULA RELAY COURSE DESCRIPTION
 
Start: John Wilson Memorial Drive, St Kilda, half way along the road and about opposite the grandstand of Tahuna Park.
 
Leg 1: John Wilson Drive to Shiel Hill Tavern 4.4 km Follow John Wilson Memorial Drive back to St Kilda and turn right into Tahuna Rd. Cross Tahuna Rd when instructed to do so at a point just past the Waste Treatment station and commence climb. Keep left up the hill and continue on the left straight ahead into Tomahawk Rd. Turn left near Spencer St, cross road and then right into Stirling St running on the right hand side. Cross Duckworth St at the end of Stirling St then turn left into Duckworth and stay on the right hand side. Turn right onto Highcliff Rd. Stay on right hand side to the finish outside the Shiel Hill Tavern
 
Leg 2: Shiel Hill Tavern to Centre Rd 3.2 km. Follow Highcliff Rd Stay on the right all the way. Steady climb
 
Leg 3: Centre Rd to Pukehiki 4.7 km. Follow Highcliff Rd Stay on the right all the way.
Steady climb for 2.5 km, then downhill and undulating.
 
Leg 4: Pukehiki to Portobello 7.1 km.   Follow Highcliff Road. Runners cross road with care. Signal following traffic. Down hill with 3 up hill rises then steady down hill. After bottom of hill stay right. Run past hotel up slight rise and turn right into Allans Beach Road. Runners must be aware that the road is open to traffic in both directions. Run on the outside of blind corners.
 
Leg 5: Portobello to Cape Saunders Road 4.0 km. Follow Allans Beach Road until foot path runs out, cross road and run up hill on left, down hill, cross road with care, signal following traffic.. Turn left at bottom of hill run on right for 3.0 km on flat gravel road and turn right into Cape Saunders Road. Runners must be aware that the road is open to traffic in both directions. Run on the outside of blind corners.
 
Leg 6: Cape Saunders Road to Portobello 7.0 km. Follow Cape Saunders Road 
up and then down a rise, turn left at Papanui Inlet and run on flat, gravel road around inlet on the right until Weir Road Road. Weir Road is a steep gravel road and drops down to Portobello Road, keep to the right but take care at blind corners. Turn left into Portobello Road cycle lane and cross the road to the right hand side where directed by a marshal. Continue on the right along Portobello Road to next change opposite Happy Hens. (Same change-over as the old leg 4) Portobello Road is flat with a rise prior to entering Portobello township.
 
Leg 7: Portobello to Broad Bay 3.2 km. Keep right all the way. Flat for 2.2 km, then rise followed by 300m downhill at end of leg.
 
Leg 8: Broad Bay to Macandrew Bay 4.9 km. Keep right all the way. Flat.
 
 
Total distance: 38.5 km
