OPEN MEN'S RACE (Race 1) 4 laps approx 5 km
In a thrilling finish, Ariki's Alan Nichols worked his way through the field off a handicap of 5min 15sec to hold out his fast finishing club mate Dougal Thorburn (off 9min) to win the 2010 Barnes Cross Country Handicap Open Men's race by just three seconds. Leith's Andrew Lonie (off 8min 15sec) finished just a second back from Thorburn having looked to be the one to initially threaten to overtake Nichols for the win but being overtaken by Thorburn in the final straight. Fastest time of 16min 25sec went to Thorburn.
The Ariki team of Nichols, Thorburn, Alan Williment, Chris Weddell, Alistair Chisnal and Peter Bromley won the team's event.
MEN 16 & UNDER (Race 2) 2 laps approx. 2.5 km
Hill City's ever-improving Samuel Bremer off a handicap of 2min 45sec won the Men's 16 race by seventeen seconds from Caversham's Hamish Cooper (off 3min). Hill City's Jack Bloomfield (off 3min 30sec) finished third. Fastest time of 9min 10sec went to Samuel Bremer of Hill City.
The Hill City team of Bremer, Bloomfield and Peter Molteno won the team's event.
WOMEN 16 & UNDER (Race 2) 2 laps approx. 2.5 km
Danielle de Caigney of Ariki off a handicap of 1min 45sec won the Women's 16 race by just 7 seconds from clubmate Sian English (also off 1min 45sec) who in turn finished 15 seconds ahead of another clubmate Hannah English (also off the same handicap). Fastest time of 10min 39sec went to Daniell de Caigney of Ariki.
The Ariki team of de Caigney, Sian English and Hannah English won the team's event.
BOYS 12 & UNDER (Race 3) 1 lap approx 1.25 km
Leith's Sam Cuthbert off a handicap of 15 seconds won the Boys 12 race by 17 seconds. Ariki's Daniel Rogers-Bromley (off 1min) finished second with clubmate Elliot Cross (off 1min 15sec) finishing third just two seconds back. Fastest time of 5min 9sec went to Oliver Molteno of Hill City.
The Leith team of Cuthbert, Jonty Horwell and Bruce Knox won the teams event.
GIRLS 12 & UNDER (Race 3) 1 lap approx 1.25 km
Leith's Emma Horwell (off go) won the Girls 12 race by 13 seconds from Ariki's Jodie Little (off 1min 30sec) with Leith's Erin Knox (off 1min 15sec) just one second back in third place. Fastest time of 5min 46sec went to Jodie Little of Ariki.
The leith team of Horwell, Knox and Abigail Barton won the teams' event.
OPEN WOMEN'S RACE (Race 1) 3 laps approx 3.75 km
Hill City's Barbara Patrick off a handicap of 3 minutes won by 24 seconds from the fast finishing Otago University runner Penelope Roy (off 5min 45sec). Hill City's Elaine Abram (off 2min 15sec) finished in third place just 5 seconds back. Fastest time of 15 minutes 14 seconds went to Leith's Megan Balchin.
The Hill City team of Patrick, Abram and Katrina Andrews won the teams event.
Race Rules
à The J G Barnes Cross Country Races shall be handicap races for runners held over distance and a course approved by the Management Committee.
à Entry to the races is open to both registered and non-registered club members and non-club members, but only athletes registered with Athletics Otago via an affiliated Athletics Otago club will be eligible for the titles.
à Non-registered club members and non-club members will self-handicap themselves for this event and will not be eligible to win the titles.
à Teams Races
à In the Open Men’s race (Men 19 & under, Senior Men, Masters Men 35, Masters Men 50) the first six Athletics Otago registered club runners to finish shall count for the team’s race.
à In the Open Women’s race (Women 19 & under, Senior Women, Masters Women 35, Masters Women 50) the first three Athletics Otago registered club runners to finish shall count for the team’s race.
à In the Men Grade 14 & under and Grade 16 & under and the Women Grade 14 & under and Grade 16 & under separate individual and teams results will be declared for men and women but the races will be held concurrently. The first three Athletics Otago registered club runners will count for the teams’ races.
à In the Combined Boys 12 & under and Boys 10 & under race and the combined Girls 12 & under and Girls 10 and under race, separate individual and teams results will be declared for boys and girls but the races will be held concurrently. The first three Athletics Otago registered club runners will count for the teams’ races.

· Entries close on Sunday 6 June at 10 pm using the online entry system linked from the Athletics Otago website www.athletics.org.nz/otago
Entry stewards: Please provide an accurate time estimate for all runners over the distance requested. Failure to meet these requirements may disadvantage your runners.

· Entries from Athletics Otago registered runners are made via club entry steward.
· No-one can enter or compete in more than one race.
· Registrations are handled by Margaret Knox via club registration steward.
· Ages are taken as at 31 December 2010 except that Masters ages are on the day.
· Entry fees will be charged to clubs after the event. Athletes who are not members of clubs must pay their entry fee when collecting their race number on the day of the event.
· Late entries are accepted but if the handicapping has been completed the runner goes off the scratch mark. Late entries will incur an additional charge of $5.00. This must be paid by the athlete to the race secretary prior to race start.
· Entry fees for club runners registered with Athletics Otago:
Grade 12 & Under and Grade 10 & Under Free
Grade 16 & under and Grade 14 & under 4.00
All other age groups 6.00
· Entry fees for runners not registered with Athletics Otago through a club:
Grade 12 & Under and Grade 10 & Under 5.00
Grade 16 & under and Grade 14 & under 15.00
All other age groups 25.00
Handicaps may be available for publication on Thursday and will be definitely posted on the Athletics Otago website when they become available.
Changing facilities will be available at Dunedin Rugby Club, Kettle Park.
Afternoon tea and the presentations will be at Dunedin Rugby Club after the last event. Certificates for the first three in all events will be awarded, plus certificates for the winning teams in each grade. Everyone is expected to bring along some food to contribute to the shared afternoon tea.

Duty Club for this event is Ariki. Please report at 12.30 pm. Two people from Ariki are also expected to help with entering the results onto the computer.
Club Stewards: One person per club is needed to help marshal the course. Marshals are to meet Dalise Sanderson near the start / finish line by 1.15pm to collect vests and be directed to their marshalling point.
