The 2009 Port Chalmers to Dunedin road race for men and women 17 years and over were held on Saturday 19 September 2009. The Handicap races for all grades 19 and under, and for Boys and Girls 12 and under and Boys and Girls 10 and under were held on the Butts road course.

Tim Dobier from Ariki was first across the line in the Port Chalmers to Dunedin Handicapped Road Race. Running off a handicap of 23 minutes, he worked his way through the field finishing 14 seconds ahead of his fast finishing clubmate Simon Kerr who was off a handicap of 24 minutes. Just 4 seconds adrift was Mytle Rough (Hill City). who was running off a handicap of 3 minutes. She held on admirably for third place.
Oliver O'Sullivan (Hill City) achieved fastest time of 40 minutes 47 seconds. Julie Wilson (Ariki) was fastest women with a time of 49 minutes 39 seconds.

Trophies to be awarded are as follows:
- Hooper Cup – Open Men Individual Winner
- Mashall Cup – Open Men Fastest Time
- Bevan Richmond Memorial Cup – Open Women Individual Winner
- Hill City Plate – Open Women Fastest Time
- Frank Perry Memorial Trophy – First six runners from a club to finish in the Port Chalmers to Dunedin Road Race, men or women.
- Dever Trophy – Men 19 & under Aggregate Handicap Logan Park Race and Handicap Barnes Cross Country. The placings are added together with the winner being the lowest aggregate. In the case of a tie the athlete with the best placing wins and if these are equal then the trophy is shared.
- Nickels Challenge Cup – Club with lowest aggregate over Port Road Race and Barnes Cross Country. The first three Open Men across the line from each club in each event count.
