April 1 saw the start of the new registration year for the sport and the beginning of a new levy structure.
Athletics New Zealand previously levied centres based on membership numbers declared the previous season, a system seen as unfair and resulting in significant under-reporting of membership.
The new levy system, a result of extensive consultation within the sport over several years sees individual members paying a fixed fee to Athletics NZ when they join a club and is designed to get all members of the sport recorded. This all helps to grow our sport, and in turn, with a strong membership base, build a compelling member benefits programme.
The new Athletics NZ levy annual fees are: Senior competitive (15 and over) $30, Under 15 (7 - 14 years) $20, Under 7 $5, Social members $20, Volunteers $0.
The previous collection method was complicated and Athletics NZ believes the new system is easy to understand, transparent and creates a low-broad-based fee that captures all participants and will make it clearer for members how much they are paying for the services available through the sport.
