Nick Willis has had another top result in Europe this morning, setting a national record in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Running in the latest IAAF World Challenge meeting, Willis (31) finished third in the 3000, clocking 7:36.91, knocking 0.58 off the record held by New Zealand middle distance icon Sir John Walker. Walker’s record was set in London on 3 September 1982.

The race was won by Kenyan Caleb Ndiku in 7:31.66 from Yomif Kejelcha from Ethiopia in 7:36.28.

The US-based 2008 Olympic silver medallist also lowered his personal best by 3.71, having run 7:40.62 last July in Zagreb.

Willis now owns the 1500 and 3000 national records, while Walker has the 1000, 2000 and Mile records to his name.

In the same race Zane Robertson finished 14th in a new outdoor personal best of 7:50.89.

Willis now returns to his base in Michigan to continue his preparations for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games starting in 6 weeks.
