Spring Series Throwing Competition, AUT Millennium Stadium, North Shore – 28 September 2013
Siositina Hakeai was just three centimetres short of Beatrice Faumuina’s New Zealand under 20 discus record with a personal best throw of 57.91m. The 19 year old had a previous best was 57.81m in winning the national under 20 title in March. She is also the national senior champion and ranked third on the New Zealand all-time list. Hakeai was fourth at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Barcelona and holds the national under 19 record of 57.55m.
Matthew Bloxham catapulted to number seven on the New Zealand all-time list with the senior 7.26kg hammer with a throw of 61.77m; an outstanding achievement for a 16 year old who holds all four New Zealand age group hammer throw records. Bloxham also had the 5kg shot out to 17.83m.
Adam Miller won the senior 2kg discus throwing 42.73m, Merewarihi Vaka was out to 49.71m in the discus and Mark Cumming M50-54 threw the 6kg hammer 54.64m, in a good warm up before the World Masters Track and Field Championships in Brazil, 16 to 27 October. Alexander Parkinson won the 1.75kg discus throwing 47.45m.

Dave Parsons of Wellington won in 3:04:01 from Dallas Wichman of Christchurch 3:16:13 and Luke Hurring of Timaru 3:16:55. Kellie Hurring of Timaru was the first woman in 3:57:29 from Sarah McLeod of Christchurch 3:59:15 and Carol Cooper of Nelson 4:05:05.

Berlin Marathon – 29 September 2013
2003 New Zealand marathon champion Todd Stevens of Wellington finished 158th and 27th M40 in 2:39:09, after passing through the half way in 1:17:31. Mandy Simpson of Wellington was 223rd and 45th W35 woman in 3:19:09, half in 1:35:13.
London Olympic Games bronze medallist Wilson Kipsang of Kenya set a world record of 2:03:23 in winning, clipping 15 seconds off compatriot Patrick Makau Musyoki’s record set in the 2011 Berlin Marathon. Former world cross country and half marathon champion Florence Kiplagat of Kenya was the first woman in 2:21:13.
Fifth Avenue Mile, Manhattan New York – 22 September 2013
Further results from the Fifth Avenue Mile, John Henwood was third in the 40-44 age group in 4:32 and Rodger Ward of Christchurch Avon was sixth in the 60-64 age group in 5:27.
NORTH HARBOUR BAYS 60th JUBILEE
The North Harbour Bays Club will celebrate its 60th Jubilee on Saturday 30 November.
The day will begin with a junior athletics meeting, flowing into a senior/masters meeting, starting at 12:30pm and finishing at 4:30pm.
The evening’s programme will include a tour of the facilities, drinks, photos, mix & mingle, and address by Graeme Avery followed by a meal. Throughout the evening there will be a chance for people to share memories of their time as a member of the Bays Athletics Club, as well as the presentation of some awards.
