Valerie Adams has been elected to the IAAF Athletes' Commission in elections held during the 2015 IAAF World Championships.
The four times world champion and twice Olympic champion topped the poll of 1837 accredited athletes competing at the championships to elect six athletes to sit on the commission for the next four years through to the 2019 World Championships in Eugene, USA.
The six newly elected representatives are Adams, Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar), Yelena Isinbayeva (Russia), Koji Murofushi (Japan), Christian Olsson (Sweden) and Andreas Thorkildsen (Norway), the IAAF announced today.
Adams, nominated by Athletics New Zealand, was thrilled to get the nod from her fellow athletes.
"I'm so grateful to be elected in the IAAF athletes commission and looking forward to help make our sport and especially throws events progress more in a positive way," said Adams
The six will begin their mandate on 1 January 2016.
