Ever since winning gold at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games in the 1500m, crossing the line with arms raised overhead, reminiscent of the great John Walker, Nick Willis has been a household name in New Zealand. He further cemented his reputation as one of New Zealand’s great 1500m runners by winning the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics two years later and then a bronze medal at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

The Hutt Valley runner has been a regular in the black singlet over the past 12 years running in the last 2 Olympic and Commonwealth Games and last 3 World Championships in the 1500m. At the World Champs in Daegu last year, Willis battled bravely through heat exhaustion to make it through to the final where he competed admirably, placing 12th. Willis is showing promising signs heading into London. This year he has run his fastest 800m and mile since winning his silver in Beijing and is looking to replicate that success.
