Kim Smith is one of New Zealand’s greatest female distance runners. She is the holder of eight national titles (3000m, 5000m, 10000m, indoor mile, indoor 3000m, indoor 5000m, half marathon, marathon) and three Oceania records (3000m, 5000m, 10000m) as well as being a four timers NCAA champion from her time spent running at Providence College.

Kim is already a two time Olympian having run the 5000m at Athens and the 10000m in Beijing. This time round she will be running the marathon. Kim has consistently been one of the best female marathon runners in the world since making the transition from the track to the road in 2009, with two 5th placings at the New York Marathon and an 8th placing at the London marathon. She qualified for her third Olympics by running 2h 25m 46s at the New York Marathon in November last year and ran her personal best time of 2h 25m 21s in London earlier this year in April. Her personal best half marathon time of 1h 07m 11s run at the Philadelphia Half Marathon is the fastest by any female on American soil. Her tough grit and front running ability makes Kim a strong contender for a medal in London.
