A specialist heptathlete, Portia has proven she also has class over 400m with a Personal Best of 54.61, set at a Winter Meet in May this year to earn her place in the relay squad. She has since improved that PB by over a second, running 53.38 at a Winter Series in the Gold Coast in July.  A Massey University student, Portia has experience at overseas meets, competing for New Zealand at the Oceania Championships in 2010 and then at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona 2012. She is also a strong 200m runner, winning the NZ Nationals in 2013 and 2nd in 2014. The Glasgow Games will be Portia’s first as part of a senior international team.

The Women’s 4 x 400m squad is the first athletics relay team selected for a major Championship since the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006. The team ran the qualifying time at a special attempt in Hamilton over Easter 2014 and did it in style with a time of 3:35.60.
