Information This camp is the beginning of outlining our new methods to be employed by the national teams for all grades. Youth and children’s sections are also strongly advised to be developing modern best practise in the following skills:
• Baton passing
• Baton receiving
• Starting stance
Overseas Guest Coaches We have secured another Prime Minister’s Scholarship this year to bring two coaches from Poland to NZ for our camp. They have competed at and coached men’s and women’s national teams at both 4x100 and 4x400m. Additionally, they have coached 400m hurdles athletes into the top four at world championship level.
Who can attend Athletes and coaches receiving P2P support, and carded athletes (and their coaches) are advised that a sum has been set aside for you to attend this camp.
Athletes who wish to race for NZ will need to learn and practice new skills to have a chance of relay selections, particularly at 4x100m. These skills will be explained, and practiced at the camp. Training systems for 400m runners will also be covered by the Poles.
Teachers, coaches and athletes from the children’s section right through to senior athletes are highly encouraged to attend.
Short term goal Along with High Performance Director, Scott Goodman, we have a serious and realistic aim of having four teams at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018. The logistics and strategies of how we can achieve the times required will be outlined at the camp.
