Editorial Comment

Welcome to the May edition of Athletics in Action.

This issue features action from the recent Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon, the NZ Mountain Running Champs and the National Track and Field Champs.

Canterbury based Blair McWhirter ran his tenth marathon round Lake Rotorua last weekend. Blair enjoys the simplicity of running and got hooked after running in a 100 mile race overseas. In this issue’s feature interview, he talks about the goals he achieved at the recent Rotorua marathon and what motivates him.

Wellington’s Gabby O’Rourke is also interviewed after taking on the challenge of the Rotorua Marathon and achieved her highest placing.

There are also articles on Hannah Newbould and Phil Costley. Costley was the winner of the NZ Mountain Running Champs up Nelson’s Mt Campbell and also won the Rotorua Marathon.

This time around the coaching profile is on Todd Blythe.
