Athletics New Zealand Championships Programme

Winter Calendar 2012

The winter championship programme for 2012 on the Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) calendar has been set.

In announcing the dates and venues for the events, ANZ’s Event Manager, Will Stewart explains that a clear philosophy exists in choosing the hosts for championship events.

Stewart said "Athletics New Zealand is aiming for well planned and delivered events that provide excellent experiences for participants and other stakeholders, growth in participation and strong financial returns for the hosts and ANZ.

The vision behind the Aurora Series ensures that we package our major events in a way that promotes the sport attractively and gives us a platform to grow the participation of our events.

We are also reliant on Clubs, Centres and event organisers applying to host championship events."

Athletics New Zealand’s Sport Manager, Brett Addison said "In choosing Hamilton for the Club Connect 2012 Conference and the Cross Country Champs, we have selected somewhere that has a Cross Country course adjacent to an excellent conference venue. The city is also within a two-hour drive of almost 50% of ANZ’s affiliated Clubs, which will make it easy for clubs to get to the Club Connect Conference."

The Mountain Running Championships will be held in the Tasman Centre, with the date to be announced shortly, and the venue for the Road Championships will also be advised soon.
