Sport New Zealand
Athletics New Zealand has been designated by Sport NZ, since 2004, as a revitalised sport and has received investment funding for High Performance, Sport Development, Revitalisation, Coaching and Capability. As one of three National Sports Organisation’s in this category, there is an expectation that Athletics will develop governance and management practices that will, over a period of time, move the sport forward at both national and regional levels. This funding and advice from SPARC is in effect the lifeblood of Athletics and without this support the Sport would be unable to function at a national or international level.
High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ)
High Performance Sport New Zealand was established to assist individuals and teams to prepare and compete with success at the highest levels of competition. Athletics New Zealand has been recognised as a national sport with the potential to achieve at an international level and, in conjunction with the Academy, has developed high performance strategies to achieve global goals.
New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC)
The NZOC provided significant financial support for Athletics New Zealand through the provision of all travel and accommodation arrangements for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. The themed New Zealand quarters at the Games Village and the efforts of the NZOC staff to build a unique atmosphere were appreciated by all. In addition to this direct support the NZOC is ultimately responsible for the selection of the entire Commonwealth Games team. Athletics New Zealand acknowledges this important function and thanks both the NZOC selectors and support staff for their cooperation and assistance.
International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF)
The IAAF is the parent body for Athletics worldwide. This Monaco based organisation sanctions “World Championship” events and also provided financial support to New Zealand athletes and Congress delegates who attended the 2005 Helsinki World Track and Field Championships.
Oceania Athletics Association (OAA)
The OAA is the regional entity of the IAAF and is vital link is the overall structure of the Sport in New Zealand. Athletics New Zealand is appreciative of the support and guidance it receives from this body and thanks all concerned.
Paralympics New Zealand
In January 2006 Athletics New Zealand signed an agreement with Paralympics New Zealand to enable athletes with disabilities to be fully integrated into to the High Performance Programme. Athletics NZ welcomes the formalisation of this relationship and looks forward to assisting with the preparation of Paralympics teams and elite athletes with disabilities in the future.
AUT Millennium Institute of Sport & Health
A trial-usage agreement between Athletics NZ and the Millennium Institute was signed late in 2005. This enables carded athletes to have access to the Institute’s facilities and represents the first stage of a move to merge the nation’s best facilities into the Performance Programme. Athletics New Zealand acknowledges the support of the Board and staff of the Millennium Institute in the completion of this agreement and looks forward to progressing it in the years ahead.
Funding from Gaming Trusts has been applied to a diverse range of activities and has enabled Athletics New Zealand to provide coaching for elite athletes, publications and events. The financial support the Sport receives from this source benefits all levels of activity and without it the task of providing events would be impossible. In many cases this support makes a major difference to the ability of Clubs and Centres to provide for their members. Athletics New Zealand, on behalf of all sectors and affiliated groupings, thanks the various gaming trusts that support our sport and in particular acknowledges the support of the following.
The Southern Trust
The Southern Trust is a supporter of Community Sport Team, enabling Athletics New Zealand to undertake a range of activities nationwide including Club development and Official development activities.
New Zealand Community Trust
At a national level the NZCT is a significant supporter of the High performance programme and also assists by supporting a range of activities that includes publications and events. Regionally it has supported club and centre activities as well the NZSSAA.
The Lion Foundation has been a significant financial supporter of Athletics NZ and its affiliated centres and clubs for many years. The Foundation supports the Rotorua Marathon and in the past has assisted with the National Track and Field championships.
This Trust continues to support the sport at a grassroots level and its various contributions have been of significant assistance in supporting events, equipment purchases and children’s competitions. Pub Charity has been a big supporter on the New Zealand Cross Country, Road, Road Relay and Track & Field Championships over the last two years.
